Why we're doing it
MND is a progressive neurological condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy. It traps a person in their own body, leaving them unable to move, speak or breathe. There is currently no cure and no effective treatment. Our family has been affected by MND, and we want to help fund research that could lead to a cure.
SITraN is a world-leading centre for MND research at the University of Sheffield. Read more about the work on the University's MND giving page.
What your money can do
Examples from the University's MND giving page:
- £50 buys lab equipment that speeds up researchers' daily work
- £500 helps recruit a dedicated Research Fellow focused on treatment breakthroughs
- £1,500 could help fund clinical trials that move treatments from the lab to patients

Where does the money go?
This is a personal fundraiser run by Tom Cheesewright and Martha Dhanda; it is not run by the University of Sheffield or a registered charity. Donations are collected through our Stripe account and passed on in full (less card processing fees) to SITraN via the University of Sheffield after the race. Donations made here are not eligible for Gift Aid.
